Founded in 1953 by Ted Jacka and Eric Wortley, the company began business operations as a wholesale distributor of upholstery coverings in a rented room on James St, Melbourne.

1960 saw an expansion to a new warehouse in the inner suburb of Carlton.This was followed in 1978 by the building of a new distribution facility at Mulgrave, where the business is still located today. In 2000, the showroom and administration areas were completely re-built.

It is from this site that the second and third generation of the founding family guide the company's operations, supported by showrooms interstate and in-field representatives.

Now 100% owned by the Wortley family, the company celebrated 50 years of continuous industry service on June 1st 2003.

In 2004, the Wortley Group was voted FIAA Australian Supplier of the Year. The award recognizes the wholesale supplier who has delivered excellent customer service over the past twelve months through competitive pricing, quality of goods, technical support and efficient service.
